Javier Milei visits Vaca Muerta
The Argentine president flew over our Fortín de Piedra field in a helicopter and met with leaders of the companies operating in the basin, including Ricardo Markous.
Last Thursday, President Javier Milei visited Vaca Muerta on a trip that included joining a meeting organized by the majority state-owned Argentine energy company YPF with top leaders from the principal operators in the Neuquén basin. Milei met with executives such as Ricardo Markous; Horacio Marín, president and CEO of YPF; Marcos and Alejandro Bulgheroni from Pan American Energy (PAE); Marcelo Mindlin from Pampa Energía; Hugo Eurnekian from Compañía General de Combustibles (CGC); Catherine Remy from TotalEnergies; Juan Garoby from Vista; Germán Burmeister from Shell; Adrián Vila from Pluspetrol; Diego Trabucco from Aconcagua Energía, and Daniel De Nigris from ExxonMobil.
Milei was greeted at the airport by Neuquén Governor Rolando Figueroa. The two then took a helicopter tour over the Vaca Muerta oil fields, including Fortín de Piedra—a site with a USD 3.6 billion investment that has reached gas production levels of 1 TCF in record time. He then visited the control room on the Nabors NB 1211 drilling rig, lying in YPF's Loma Campana field, where he shared a moment with local staff.
Later, at YPF's offices, the members of the delegation talked about the possibilities of the current pipeline system, as well as the most recent LNG projects and the Vaca Muerta Sur Pipeline, which could transport one million barrels of oil per year, a record output figure expected for 2027. “We discussed the need to transform Argentina into a leading energy exporter. Our export potential could reach up to 30 billion dollars a year," said Markous.
