Following a series of initial efforts to venture into the industry by participating in non-operated projects, Tecpetrol eventually came into being in February 1988 in Argentina.

In 1995, the company embarked on a strategy of international projection and entered a project in Venezuela.

The drive to achieve expansion in production complemented the company’s strategy of geographic expansion. Tecpetrol started to become involved in the transportation and distribution of oil and gas.

The company entered Ecuador to develop and produce a mature field.

Tecpetrol rose to the challenge of leading the construction and then the operation and maintenance of the pipeline transportation system for the Camisea project.

The company’s growth plan expanded to reach Mexico where it began work to explore and develop a mature field in the north of the country, achieving a 50% increase in output.

Work began on an oil exploration project in the Colombian Eastern Plains, and a study project initiative in Bolivia.

The first control room is set up in Bloque Misión, Mexico.

The company took on more areas in Ecuador and started developing two other mature fields, one as a partner and the other as the leader of the operating consortium.

Tecpetrol’s incursion into the power generation segment came with the award of the project to build the Pesquería Power Plant in Mexico, a gas-fueled combined cycle electricity plant.

The company launched the project for the mass development of unconventional resources in the Vaca Muerta shale formation at the Fortín de Piedra field.

In just 18 months, Fortín de Piedra rose to become one of the top developments in the area, with production levels reaching 13% of Argentina's total gas output.

Consolidation of the company’s strategy to enter the lithium business following the purchase of a Canadian company with assets in three salt flats in Salta, Argentina: El Tolillar, Hombre Muerto y Arizaro.

Fortín de Piedra notched up an output milestone of one trillion cubic feet (TCF) of accumulated gas production, equivalent to meeting the consumption needs of all Argentine homes during three years.
