Taking the path towards greater diversity
As part of its overall diversity program, Tecpetrol is running different activities in the Northern Region (Ecuador, Colombia and Mexico). Find out more about these exciting initiatives.
The plan being rolled out in Ecuador can be perfectly summarized by the meeting called Uniting Voices for Energy, the latest event on the calendar of the Ecuadorian Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Diversity & Inclusion program. The SPE invited Cinthya Montoya, Human Resources Business Partner Manager, Esteban Grassi, Commercial & Planning Manager, and Alberto Narváez, Operations Sr. Manager and a member of the +d program's governance committee, as well as Francisco Do Pico, Country Director, to share the key features of our company’s diversity program.
“Today the challenges we face are increasingly diverse, as the issues involved range from technical and social aspects to the environment and different political contexts. This creates fertile ground for promoting diversity and inclusion, as this is the only perspective from which we can truly think about our business,” explained Francisco. “Differences have to be the norm. We are all different and celebrating this is a way to generate more value,” expanded Alberto. “We need to break down all barriers. At Tecpetrol, we are clear about the areas that need work. And the SPE is promoting this.” “We feel that we are ahead of the curve when it comes to these issues,” said Esteban, and Cinthya added that “A huge amount of work has been done in these five years. It’s becoming increasingly relevant, there is a greater focus on diversity in general and that’s very positive because it gives us space and ideas to continue working.”
“We are committed to a process of continuous reconstruction. Every year we have new ideas and launch new programs to develop actions that will ultimately transcend Tecpetrol and serve to guide us in our daily lives.” Furthermore, the good news has just come in that the company is on the way to obtaining certification as a Responsible Family Company in Ecuador, highlighting its intention to reconcile personal and family life with work responsibilities.
In Colombia, things are on a similar track. “We’re working to implement actions that will earn us the Silver Seal of the Equipares certification. This recognizes organizations taking action to close the gender gap,” explained Karina Valero, HRBP Manager Colombia. “The objective is to transform the workplace environment and ensure everybody is deliberately included, moving towards a more egalitarian workplace culture in order to improve the quality of life of Tecpetrol Colombia staff.” The Silver Seal is the first step. “Then comes the Gold Seal. We want to bring about a profound cultural change so that the people of Tecpetrol Colombia can foster gender equality by living and feeling it, in the knowledge that they all have equal opportunities,” she added.
Tania Espíndola, HRBP Regional Sr. Manager, talked about what the company is doing in Mexico. “In the Northern Region, we are looking for an insignia to represent the efforts made by each country. In Mexico, we began by joining the INcluye Forum in 2021, a space created to encourage companies to come up with new ideas and share best practices in Diversity and Inclusion. Today, there are over 50 companies and more than 15 sectors represented in the Forum. Two months after we joined, we competed for the INcluye Award and presented our +d program, placing first. Then, we participated again with the +d Cards initiative, and won again for the second time in 2023.”
All this is just the beginning. The +d program is a vital component of the transformative changes sweeping through the company across various key areas, reflecting a deep-seated commitment to self-renewal and embracing diversity.
