There’s nothing like being a good neighbor

When the COVID-19 pandemic began to spread so quickly during the first months of 2020, the Techint Group had already established a solid framework of relationships with its neighboring communities, which meant it could respond quickly to the emergency and offer its support to these communities. A testimonial to this work was featured at the launch of the Annual Community Relations Report.

“As we have done on so many occasions in the past, we have together been able to emerge stronger and more resilient, even from the worst crises,” says Paolo Rocca in his introductory letter to the Techint Group’s Community Relations Report 2019. As we face this new challenge, our intention is to continue standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our communities and progress together, as we have done over our 70 years of history.”

The focus of the Group continues to be education, with approximately 72% (USD 18.9 million) of the funds earmarked for the Roberto Rocca Technical Schools network, as well as the Technical Gene program, the AfterSchool program, the Merit Awards and the Roberto Rocca Educational Program.

In 2019, the Roberto Rocca Technical Schools Network (ETRR), currently present in Argentina and Mexico, offered technical education to 765 students from different economic backgrounds and had its first class of graduates, totaling 174 - 50 in Argentina and 124 in Mexico.  In addition the Pesquería ETRR received the World Steel Association award for "excellence in education and training", acknowledging the success of the Network’s educational model. Also, the Campana ETRR was awarded the Eikon communications prize in the "sustainability in education" category, in recognition of the successful leveling process carried out for entry-level candidates, and of the dissemination of technical education in general.

In addition, an additional 21% (USD 5.6 million) was earmarked for various cultural activities, including the PROA Foundation (Argentina), Fondazione Dalmine (Italy) and the Latin American Film Festival which is held in various locations around the world.
