Where there’s energy, there’s a way

Now in its sixth edition, the report offers a dynamic look at how the company is pushing forward with its mission—building an operation that’s not only more environmentally responsible but also centered on people and fully aligned with the world’s leading standards.

Tecpetrol’s latest Global Sustainability Report is now out and ready to explore. Structured around key themes, it offers an engaging look at the company’s environmental, social, economic, and governance performance throughout 2024, highlighting top achievements and the strides made toward a more responsible, efficient, and connected way of working.

Put together by the Compliance team working in close collaboration with teams across the countries where Tecpetrol operates, this report has been drawn up in line with leading international standards such as GRI, SASB, and IPIECA, aligning key indicators with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Overall, it’s a clear reflection of Tecpetrol’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and open communication with its stakeholders. To ensure transparency and reliability, the content was also reviewed through an external quality verification process.

Seven key themes, one unified purpose

● Our company

At Fortín de Piedra, Tecpetrol’s cumulative gas production hit 1 TCF (trillion cubic feet)—enough to supply every home in Argentina for the next three years. The company also began operations at the Ramos field and made progress in unconventional oil development at Puesto Parada.

In Colombia, it drilled the longest horizontal section of a geosteered well to-date at Campo Pendare. Meanwhile, in Mexico, the Pesquería Power Plant continued to perform at peak levels, with operational availability staying above 99%, reinforcing its vital role in the region’s energy grid.

● Economic performance

At global level, Tecpetrol has implemented efficiency improvements worth USD 14 million, continuing to move forward with its digital transformation strategy. Reflecting its strong commitment to local development, 97% of the company’s purchases were made from local suppliers. In Mexico, the Pesquería Power Plant launched an innovative pilot project using drones and artificial intelligence to inspect high-voltage power lines, allowing for the early detection of anomalies and boosting safety as much as operational efficiency.

Tecpetrol also reinforced its focus on community development, increasing its investment in education by 150% through programs like GenEra and the Gregorio Álvarez Scholarships in Neuquén, Argentina.

● Sustainability strategy

Tecpetrol continued to ramp up its energy transition efforts in 2024, with global investments led by TechEnergy Ventures—the Techint Group’s venture fund backing cutting-edge energy technologies. Its portfolio now includes 17 startups working on disruptive solutions to reshape the future of energy.

In Argentina, the Energy Transition Unit made steady progress on several fronts. The Buena Ventura Wind Farm is already powering 50% of Tenaris’s electricity needs, while the Vientos Olavarría Wind Farm, now nearing completion, will soon cover 90% of Ternium’s energy demand, currently sourced from third parties.

Adding to the momentum, the company is also exploring four salt flats in northern Argentina, reinforcing its commitment to building a cleaner, more sustainable energy matrix.

● Environmental performance

Tecpetrol kept up its strong focus on habitat and biodiversity conservation in 2024, launching a variety of impactful initiatives. In Colombia, over 112,000 native seedlings were planted, helping to restore more than 100 hectares of land. Meanwhile, in Argentina, campaigns like Native Fauna in the Neuquén Basin sparked greater awareness about the importance of protecting local wildlife.

On the global front, teams across all operations took part in hands-on workshops to identify new ways to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, reinforcing Tecpetrol’s commitment to a more sustainable future.

● Our people

Tecpetrol continued to strengthen its organizational culture in 2024, reaching key milestones both globally and locally. At the corporate level, highlights included the ongoing Leadership Program for Senior Managers and the launch of the Tecpetrol University Management School, while the Tecpetrol University Induction Camp celebrated its tenth anniversary.

The company also introduced a new protocol to support employees dealing with domestic violence and marked five years of its +diversidad diversity program, which became a finalist in the Flor Awards—making Tecpetrol the first company in the Oil & Gas sector to reach this stage.

In Colombia, the operation received the Equipares Silver Seal for its commitment to gender equality, while in Ecuador, Tecpetrol was named an “Iconic Company Creating a Better World for All” by the Women Economic Forum.

Throughout the year, the company also continued to deliver strong safety outcomes, reinforcing a culture of prevention and well-being across all its operations.

● Community Relations

In Argentina, Tecpetrol awarded 270 Roberto Rocca Scholarships to high-school students and 15 to university students, while the GenEra Neuquén program got off to a strong start, delivering over 43,000 hours of training and reaching more than 1,000 students. After a six-year break, the Latin American Film Festival made its return to the big screen in Neuquén.

In Colombia, the festival was held for the first time in Villavicencio and in the rural community of Puerto Triunfo, bringing culture and cinema to new audiences.

In Ecuador, 30 Roberto Rocca Scholarships were awarded at the Pacayacu Educational Unit, nearly doubling last year’s figures and reinforcing the company’s commitment to education in the region.

Meanwhile, in Mexico, more than 30 workshops were held in Pesquería and nearby communities, focused on emotional and psychological development and benefiting 748 people, including students, teachers, and parents.

● Governance, ethics and integrity

Tecpetrol took another step forward in reinforcing its culture of integrity by updating its Code of Conduct and Business Conduct Policy, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, ethics, and compliance across the board. The company complemented the Supplier Code of Conduct with a new Third Party Business Conduct Policy, setting a clear standard for responsible business practices in every interaction in the value chain. Staying true to these principles, 98% of employees in high-risk roles completed anti-corruption training.

A forward-looking tool

Year after year, the Global Sustainability Report continues to evolve, not just as a management and communication tool, but also as a space for collective effort. It brings together the work of teams across different areas and regions, all united by a shared purpose: making sure that every decision, investment, and project contributes to sustainable development today and helps shape a future where energy plays an increasingly relevant role.
