Achieving a perfect score of 100% in an external audit carried out by the Industrial Safety, Operational Safety and Environmental Protection Administration System (SASISOPA in Spanish) is not what you’d call an easy task. However, in 2024, Tecpetrol repeated its success in 2022, once again demonstrating its commitment to these areas. The success was the result of continuous effort on the part of leaders and contractors who brought all their experience and skills to the table to achieve the goal.

César Blanco, HSE Lead Supervisor, was in charge of streamlining the efforts made by the various managers. “The most delicate part is managing the contractors. But when you know the folk you work with, it’s easier to pinpoint what needs to be corrected and that’s a positive result we have to replicate,” explains César, highlighting the diligence required to ensure every aspect complies with internal processes. With a keen eye for detail and a steady focus, he ensured that each item was precisely tailored to meet the audit requirements and reflected work of an equally precise standard.

Beyond the technical coordination, it was also important to manage everybody involved. Claudia Garza, HRBP Lead Analyst, ensured that each person was properly trained and aligned with the required standards. “The main challenge was to identify and develop our personnel skills,” says Claudia, emphasizing the importance of the preparation phases and rigorous follow-up with training. The audits ranged from checking safety procedures to evaluating environmental compliance, aspects where our people’s correct training was crucial.

In parallel, Alexander Pineda, Mission Division Director, ensured the foundations for an impeccable audit were well and truly in place. He was in charge of everything from the continuous updating of standards to their effective implementation. “The key was to keep the information inviolate and ensure our internal policies were aligned with it,” explains Alexander, pointing out how the strategy he followed, along with careful monitoring at each stage, contributed to successful regulatory compliance. The audits meticulously reviewed each protocol, including emergency response and waste management, and the top marks of 100% compliance were a direct result of flawless implementation.

Following the evaluation, the final report was issued. The auditors commended the organization for its rigorous risk management standards, robust staff training, and the implementation of advanced monitoring and control systems. The teams then synchronized their activities once more, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, day after day. Overall, the achievement speaks of the ongoing dedication and collaborative work carried out to strengthen a standard that inspires everyone at Tecpetrol.
